Spring Fever

Just a few weeks until school is out. (Cue Alice Cooper's Schools Out For Summer). So what do we do in the meantime? It's too early to start making plans, but we can't be bored and stuck inside when the sun is calling to us! I have suffered from chronic spring fever and acute senioritis, and I have learned to take breaks while studying so I don't go insane!

Here are some great activities and events for May:

  • Getting Antsy? Get rid of some of your energy at the Independence Skate Park at 12334 Bellflower Blvd in Downey (On Bellflower just North of Imperial Highway).
    • Helmets, knee and elbow pads are requires at all times

    • School Year Hours: M-F 3-8pm, S-S 12-3pm

    • Summer Hours/Snack Bar Hours: M-F 12-5pm, S-S 12-3pm

    • FREE!

  • Practice Practice Practice
City Of Downey 1st Annual Battle of the Bands
    • By Practice, I don't mean watching School of Rock and hoping you can learn without touching an instrument!

    • Maybe you already play an instrument and just need to get together a few friends to form a band

    • Or you don't play anything...but can you sing/scream/wail ?

    • Initial Battle takes place July 21, 4-8pm @ Furman Park, 10419 Rives Avenue (Between Firestone and Florence)

    • Final Battle rages on August 25, 4-8pm @ Furman Park

    • Register at City Hall

  • Take a walk. I know this sounds lame at first, but when you've been studying or writing a paper for 2 hours straight, it's a great break. A simple 20 minute walk will help to clear your head, stretch you muscles, and let your eyes rest for a few minutes. And it Free!

  • Dude, Do I even have to say it?! Read. A. Book.
    • Check out the list to the left...these are some of my favorite books.

    • Wander over to the Land O' Links and clickyclicky on Reading Rants or Teen Reads for some great reading lists.
