Summer is here, school is almost out, and my attention span is shrinking daily. You would think that I wouldn't get senioritis anymore, especially since I've been out of high school for a few years now. Student or not, summer comes around and I always get the urge to slack off, take cat naps, and procrastinate on all my chores. Honestly, my attention span shrinks to about 5 minutes; 10 minutes if it's something seriously interesting. I'm sure some of you have the same problem. So here is my solution for SummertimeShortAttentionSpanItis: Short stories. We've got lots of short stories at the library. Some are in Adult Fiction, some in Children's Fiction, but some of my favorites are in Young Adult Fiction. I put links to a few good ones at the top of this blog-just click on the cover.
I think short stories are great for summertime. They usually run a few pages and are quick to read. I don't have to commit hours to one story, or remember a huge cast of characters. Don't get me wrong-I love to read long, complex books, or a series that has a dozen titles. I just appreciate the brevity of a good short story sometimes.
So now I'm going to sign off, crack open my book to the next short story, and try to read all 14 pages before taking a cat nap.
