How many of you have listened to an audio book? They used to come on cassette tapes, and now they are on CDs, as a MP3 on CD, downloadable files, and Playaway audio media players (a preloaded MP3 player).
I still read (and generally prefer) print books, but I've found that sometimes the audio books are more appropriate for the situation. On average I listen to 4-7 audio books per month. I tend to use all the formats, although the downloadable eaudio books are my current favorite format. My preferred format usually depends on when I am listening to it. It might be to entertain me on a long road trip (CDs), or to listen to while walking around the neighborhood (Playaways), or an eaudio book downloaded to my computer so I can listen to the latest Stephanie Meyer while working.
I have a friend who drives alot, so she listens to a lot more books than she reads. She listens to so many that she has favorite narrators and publishers. She doesn't have a whole lot of time to read a book.
Now that I've said all that, is listening to an audio book the same as reading it? If someone listens to an audio book, are they experiencing the same thing as someone who reads a print version? There are many arguments supporting both sides of the debate, but I'm not going to tell you what they are! I want you to leave a comment (at the end of the post), email me your opinion, or even come into the library to let me know what you think. I will post your responses on Thursday, March 20.
