Long Time No Post

Bad Blogger!

It has been a while since I last posted…in the flurry of Back to School projects I have not had time to post. Now that all is caught up, I can once again inform you of upcoming happenings, interesting information, and trivia tidbits.

Here are some updates on events and other tasty morsels:

The Teen Advisory Committee had its first meeting of the school year on Wednesday, September 26th, 3:30pm – 4:30pm. New members will need to fill out a volunteer application. We discussed upcoming programs and ideas for new programs.

Banned Books Week was September 29 – October 6. This is a week during which we celebrate the First Amendment and the Freedom to Write and Read according to that amendment. The American Library Association website has some great information about banned and challenged books.
This is the ALA quick explanation of BBW:
"Banned Books Week (BBW) celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one’s opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints to all who wish to read them."

Come on in to the library to check out a banned book…I bet you never knew they were banned! My favorite is Catcher in the Rye, what’s yours?

Coming Soon: Teen Read Week, Open Voting for Teens Top Ten, Dia de los Muertos and Sugar Skull Decoration, the LAST session of Research Using Databases, and more!
